Barr. Muhammad I. Lawal is actively involved in litigation in the courts both as an advocate of Shari'a and English law. 

Acts as a legal consultant both in English and Islamic law since 1992 to date. He is Chairman of the Panel that drafted the Procedural law for Islamic Customary law for Lagos State, Mediation, Conciliation and Counseling both in Civil and Islamic cases for over 20 years on issues related to marriage, divorce, custody and guardianship of minors, distribution of Muslim’s estates according to Shari’a, Islamic Contracts and general Mua'malah through the Independent Sharia Panel and private practice as Shari’a expert.

He adjudicated and gave judgments among parties on various Islamic Contracts such as Islamic Partnership, Leasing, and other Islamic commercial transactions such as Mushaarakah, Wakaalah, Muraabaha, Rahn, Waqf, through the Independent Sharia Panel. Treated issues of Takaful or Islamic Insurance and even drafted for interested parties on various Islamic documents, which include Islamic Wills, Miiraath and their interpretation.

 Barr. Muhammad attended Seminars and Training on Islamic Economics, Islamic Banking and Finance, Takaful or Islamic Insurance, and Islamic Mortgage across the nation through the auspices of the Supreme Council For Sharia. He delivers lectures as a facilitator to Islamic Law Students at both the University Campuses and the Law School, Lagos Campus on Islamic Finance, Mortgage and Islamic Moot Court Judge( Qadi) under the auspices of the National Association of Muslim Law Students. He has communicative proficiency in Arabic, English, Hausa and Yoruba, written and oral.
